2019 OG League Rd 16 Results

The OG League Blog is here to show how it all went down in our league as we get nearer and nearer to the finals. From here there are only two rounds left so every competition point is gold!

Marximum Louw Groomed Maddogs 582 defeats 426 Otere is the new Black
This one was tied up at 1 a piece before the pivotal final match-up. Nelson needed the win to have any hope of playing finals, while Wylie sits narrowly on top of a 5 man battle royal for the post season. Wylie answered the challenge with aplomb by taking out the biggest score of the week yet again. Malcolm Marx (84 points) top scored for the Maddogs, while Beauden Barrett and Ngani Laumape (72) both killed it. Throw in Brad Weber (63), Dan du Preez (58) and Lizo Gqoboka (44) and we start to see how he scored so well. Meanwhile Nelson feels aggrieved because he has now faced the top scoring manager 6 rounds from a possible 16. The thing he is forgetting, is that the goal of fantasy football is to actually score the highest yourself! Needless to say Otere is the New Black's 426 was far from that. Kwagga Smith (75 points) didn't let last years loser down, nor did Anton Lienert-Brown (62) and Sevu Reece (52). Nelson's biggest problem has now firmly become Rieko Ioane (20). The under performing winger's form doesn't warrant selection, but standing him down would take some serious kahunas. The head to head finishes at Wylie 2, Nelson 1.

Burnin' Bridges 564 defeats 485 White Linen Hides the Sinning
Nabung has been in some hot form for the last few weeks, and finally the wins have paid off as he jumps up into 4th place on the OG League leader board. Burnin' Bridges picked up Solomon Alaimalo (79 points) who top scored for him this week (another Nelson loss), while Bernard Foley (54) and Ofa Tu'ungafasi (50) cracked the half tonne. Aphiwe Dyantyi (47), Jack Goodhue (45) and Chris Feauai-Sautia (40) all played their part in the win as well. Nsync had been making a late push for finals for weeks now, but finally the gig is up, the loss knocks him out of contention and resigns him to a battle to avoid the wooden spoon playoffs. Drafting Semisi Masiwera (79 points) despite the laughs from his fellow managers proved a master stroke, while Michael Hooper (50), Bryce Hegarty (48), Pita Gus Sowakula (42), Jordie Barrett (41), Schalk Brits (41) and Will Genia (40) all contributed to a solitary attacking bonus point. The match-up finishes Nabung 2, Nsync 1.

Call Me Big Papali'i 571 defeats 401 Coles-Royce
The last thing anyone wants is to go down 3-0 in a head to head match-up, let alone to have it happen when you're battling for a finals spot, and your opposition's top scorer is the very man you traded him weeks earlier. This one must have stung Cargie, not only is the defending champ now back in 5th place, but he will need to beat both Larry and Nsync to have any chance of making the finals (that doesn't sound so bad now that I type it). Harry managed to put a stop to his 3 week losing streak with the second highest score of the round and a maximum 5 competition points. Kurtley Beale (88 points) was both Call me Big Papali'i's best and the fantasy man of the match this week, while the man Cargie traded for him Damian de Allende (28) failed to make an impact. Melani Nanai (62), Hershel Jantjies (58), Ardie Savea (53), Brayden Ennor (51) and Guido Petti (42) also scored well for the 2nd placed manager. The final nail in the coffin was Andries Coetzee (59) who Cargie dropped to the free agency this week for Seabelo Senatla (3). If there was ever a way to shoot your fantasy dreams in the foot, Cargie's managerial skills really showed us the way. It wasn't all doom and gloom for the now 5th ranked champ, Pete Samu (54 poionts) top scored for him with another big performance, and Akira Ioane (47) looked to hog the ball like we all know he should. Dane Haylett-Petty (41) rounded out the solid performances for Cargie but that's all she wrote in this one. Cargie will be desperate to get a chance to get off nudies against his podcasting counterpart in the finals but that is now far from guaranteed. Havili's Homophobic Henchmen 427 defeats 330 Clan Mckenzie
Blake's newly named "Havili's Homophobic Henchmen" have been in a hot run of form of late, but given the tightness of the competition it has done little to secure his place in the top 4, let alone push him any higher. Playing the man has been his absolute speciality this season, and yet again he has managed to bag a win without an attacking bonus point (for scoring >450) as Larry's Clan McKenzie scored the lowest total of the week. The Henchmen did what they had to do with RG Snyman (60 points) standing above the rest, while Samu Kerevi (50) and Tom Banks (42) also chipped in with solid performances. On the other side of the coin, Larry made a 4 man trade with Cargie just to field a competitive team this week, but it wasn't enough as his 14 man side failed to get anything near a total that would push the rest of the competition. Tempted by Marika Koroibete's (60 points) huge game week against the Sunwolves last round, he drafted the flyer in and he didn't disappoint. But sadly playing Marnus Schoeman (15) off the bench and Ma'a Nonu (-1) from the same trade did little for him. Scott Barrett (43) was the only other player to lift for the Clan who have seriously missed their namesake D-Mac for most of the season. Two things have been locked in from this match-up: First, Larry is officially Blake's bitch as they finish at 3 zip for the season, and secondly Larry will need to start getting his costume box in order, because he will be making a sexy calendar. All that is left for Larry to play for now is to cause a few upsets in the remaining two weeks, and then to relegate one of either Nelson or Nsync to the Wooden Spoon trophy for the 2019 OG League.
