Fantasy Round 7 Review: The Barrett Bonanza

Round 7 of Super Rugby was a tale of two types of games;

Fast pace, free flowing, high scoring and heavily momentum based affairs: Hurricanes (38) vs Waratahs (28) Brumbies (43) vs Reds (10) Stormers (34) vs Chiefs (26) Force (46) defeating Kings (41)

Physical, Intense, grind out games; Sunwolves (21) defeating Bulls (20) Highlanders (26) defeating Blues (20) Sharks (18) vs Jaguares (13)

You can tell which games brought in the Fantasy points and boy were there some great performances.

The Barrett Bonanza! The Barrett brothers put on a breathtaking display for the Hurricanes on the weekend, running around like they were playing some old schoolyard footy. Beauden (73 Fantasy Points) was clearly fed up with younger sibling Jordie outshining him on the fantasy front and this week certainly reminded fans why he was the 2016 World Rugby Player of the Year. Beauden actually scored 106 fantasy points this round before losing 33 points for; conceding 2 penalties (-8) and receiving 2 yellow cards (-10) which resulted in a red card (-15)! Jordie Barrett (64 FP) wasn't exactly sitting idle, rather he was still prefered for the goal kicking duties and his match effort still making the team of the week (again!).  You can check out Beauden and Jordie's crazy stats in the Team of the Week (TOTW) below. **RUMOUR MILL** After All Black lock and 3rd of the 4 Barrett brothers, Scott Barrett joined his siblings signing with Taranaki in the ITM Cup last week, it could be just a matter of time until he too don's the black and gold Hurricanes Jersey.

Whilst the Chiefs unbeaten streak was lost with the result against the Stormers, there was still good news for those with possibly the best fantasy outside backs (OBK) in the business, Damian KcKenzie (76 FP) & James Lowe (83 FP). These two lads know how to score fantasy points and despite the acrobatics they generally don't seem to get injured (D Mack is only 78kg!).  Add to this that they have been fringe All Blacks over the last couple of years, (with D Mack earning his first caps last year), which means that the recent trend of resting players for the June Tests, doesn't seem to trouble them either! The two constant OBKs for the chiefs were impressive with almost 300 run meters between them. They may not have won the fantasy battle this week but the in form Stormers back three, Dilyn Leyds (22), SP Marais (39) & C Kolbe (36) that had the last laugh taking out the W. The three of them still had great games but that just didn't convert to points this week. Too bad fantasy points aren't awarded for filthiest flick pass (Dilyn Leyds);

Other big performances across the weekend included some of those people that were just omnipresent on the night, finding the ball in the right place at the right time; Brumbies backrowers Chris Alcock (80 FP) & Jarrad Butler (48 FP) and big Charlie Faumuina (50 FP) stepping up at a good time to press his case to the national selectors.

Others racked up some big fantasy scores through rolling up the sleeves and putting in the hard yards;

• Ned Hanigan (46 FP) continues to impress with his work physicality and work ethos

• Siya Kolisi (50 FP) has had a new lease on life since taking over the captaincy

• Andre Esterhuizen (73 FP) made 9 Tackle Busts with his hard, straight running.

• Augustin Creevy (60 FP) has refound last years fantasy form.

• Isi Naisarani (47 FP) has been getting better each week since given a starting role.
