OG LEAGUE 2020 – ROUND 2

After a brief hiatus through round 1 the OG League is back! Last week was all a bit insane with the competition kicking off but we will quickly catch you up. In round 1 things basically stayed as they were for our managers despite everyone drafting completely new sides. Newbung, Harry, Cargie & AJ all took wins, with Cargie the only man to take an attacking BP. Meanwhile Nelson, Wylie, Nabung and Nsync all started on the wrong side of the ledger.

Trade Night Rd 1

Our first ever trade night carrying only 2 subs saw new tactics from each manager. From a personal point of view, I tried to trade off Liam Coltman and Josh Ioane as blue chip starters before lineouts came up but found my trades falling on deaf ears! Needless to say tactics will change as we all figure it out.

Round 2 Fixtures:

Cargie (1) vs Wylie (5)
Cargie, the 2018 champion looks to have recaptured his form with the biggest score of the competition in consecutive weeks. Once again Richie Mo'unga (65 points) lead the way for his side with solid back up from Ardie Savea (49), Codie Taylor (48) and Liam Wright (45). Having the competitions coolest name was not enough for Wylie's team to score his first win of the shortened competition. All of Peri Peri's men scored reasonably well but the lack of a standout performer was his clear letdown. Filipo Daugunu (43 points) led the way for his side, something that shouldn't have happened except for a coaching misjudgement, where Jona Nareki (46) sat on his bench.

With 170 points apparently 2 out of 3 Barrett's is bad..... Moving on to Harry, he took the gimmy win fielding only 13 men. Unsurprisingly Harry Wilson (57 points) top scored, while Tyrell Lomax (53) came from nowhere to come a close second.

Newbung (3) vs Nabung (6)
For those that don't remember, in his firt season ever, Newbung won 6 from 6 precovid and then kept the streak alive in rd 1 with another solid win. Who better then, to end the streak than his own brother turned mentor Nabung. The OG League's preseason favourite only took 12 men into the game, trying to keep his champion squad intact, a risky tactic in any match-up. TJ Perenara (68 points) and Lukhan Salakai-Loto (63) set the way with huge scores, but they had little help from the rest of the side. Nabung thought he was fielding a full team until Dane Coles late injury call left him a man short. Despite the change up Ngani Laumape (66 points), Aaron Smith (59) and Michael Hooper (57) did enough to give the OG League original, Nabung, the bragging rights and an attacking BP.

No Spoon for you (438) vs (358) Ride my Pone
Nelson (7) vs Nsync (8)
The 2 time run spoon winner Nelson was desperate to get his name in the winners circle. Despite being the eternal pessimist, he managed the win over last weeks embarrassment Nsync. Young James Ramm (60 points) had another big week, while Angus Bell (53), Lachlan Swinton (51) and Tate McDermott (43) did their part. 'Ride my Pone' was named on the back of the potential we all saw in Pone Fa'amausili (51), and boy he did deliver! The young prop was an absolute menace across the park, but he couldn't top the Saffa turned Hurricanes winger Kobus Van Wyk (53 points) who was arguably the most damaging man on the park in his NZ derby. Despite their strong showing it wasn't enough to get the job done, and Nsync is now planted firmly on the bottom of the table.
